Movie Camera Training Workshop (6 months)


To start with, CFA launches the first course in Cinematography. The first intake commences on 1st January 2007. The first batch will have strength of 32 students. The course comprises of 6 Semesters spread over 6 months.

Each semester will carry an evaluation test. The successful completion of the program will also depend on the performance in these tests. Three projects during the course that includes a group project towards the end of the course.

This course aims to put you in the auteur class. You can start a career with CFA production house or you can become a production house yourself. But your field is wide open; you can be an independent Cinematographer, Ad. Film maker, Director etc.


6 Semesters: 1290 Hours


Semester 1: 160 Hours
Introduction of Visual media > Pre-production > Production > Post production > Basics of a Story, One-line, Screenplay & Dialogues > Charting > Budgeting > Planning for the Shoot > Structure of film > Theory of Processing & Printing


Semester 2: 170 Hours
Functions of Still camera > Study of Still camera parts > Lenses & their Focal Length exposure > Exposure meter, Sutter speed & Aperture > Functions of Digital Camera > Function of Motion Picture Camera > Study of Formats - 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, 70mm Cinema scope, Cinerama, Vistarama, IMAX, 3D IMAX > Parts & Functions of Video Camera VHS, U-Matic, Beta SP, Digi Beta, Mini DV, DV, PD, 170, DSR 390, 400, 570, 590, HD Camera > Parts & Functions of Movie Camera, Bolex 16mm, Mitchell Camera, Arriflex II C, III, 435, 535 etc.


Semester 3: 290 Hours
Lighting with full fledge cine unit & practical with DSR, HD Camera, Arriflex II C & III > Different types of lights - Par light, Kinoflo, HMI, Senior, Junior, Baby, 2KV, 1KV etc. > Basics of Lighting - Key light, Side light, Fill light, Back light, Cross light etc. > Lighting Styles - Portrait lighting, Mood lighting, Lighting for Outdoor & Indoor, Lighting for Chroma Key, Unconventional way of Lighting for Specific Application > Camera Movements - Track & Trolly, Crane, Steady Cam etc. > Introduction to Akela Crane & Jimmy Jib.


Semester 4: 260 Hours
Shooting Exercise with full fledge cine unit & practical with DSR, HD Camera, Arriflex II C & III > Shooting Indoor & Outdoor Day effect
Shooting Indoor & Outdoor Night effect > Shooting Day for Night > Shooting different types of scenes, different camera movements > Shooting exercise on different locations.


Semester 5: 210 Hours
Techniques of Song Picturisation - Storyboard planning, Shot dividingshooting on location with sound > Filters & Lenses > Fundamentals of sounds with Nagra > Group project shoot with 16mm an International Class short film > Study tour - Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad > Visit - Prasad IMAX Studio Hyderabad, shooting locations


Semester 6: 200 Hours
Individual projects > Production & Presentation of Music Video: Students should plan & create a Storyboard, Shoot, Edit, Sync the Music & Present the Final Output > Production & Presentation of Short film / Documentary: Students should prepare the script, shoot, post production & presentation of the final output.
